Why China?

Work, travel, Asia is the best. After living and working in Argentina, S.Korea, Spain, and Holland I wanted a new challenge.

Best part about being in GGI?

The friends, connecting with someone you’d never have met otherwise.

Favorite City?

Shanghai of course, the foodie options, WeChat duh, the diversity. A close second is SoCal, I’m still a Cali girl at heart.

Community
Dr. Sai Walker – GGI Suzhou Community Manager

Work?

Gynecologist. Working as a fellow of laparoscopic surgery.

Why China?

For the technology and the vast array of patients. Also love the life of an expat !!

Best part about GGI?

Knowing that there is such a wide diversity in this world. Meeting women from different walks of life and coming together as one and sharing amazing life experiences. Experience always makes a man wiser. Also knowing that you are alone in this ups and downs of the universe.

Favorite city?

Rome !! Totally love the gothic structures and the layout of the city. Also the infrastructure built so many years ago still stands tall and proud. Shadows of the past and History sparkles at every step in Rome. And of course the food !! Italian food is my favorite cuisine.

Rachel Sorenson – GGI Shanghai Health & Fitness Manager

Work?

My day job is being a Content Developer and Research Analyst. On the side I’m a spinning instructor, fitness and wellness writer, and try to rock climb whenever I can!

Why China?

I came to China because I was seeking adventure and perspective. I found a job teaching English to get myself to Shanghai, and rolled with the punches to find other opportunities along the way.

Best part about being in GGI?

Meeting awesome and relatable women who are in this chaotic and dynamic environment together!

Favorite City?

I have to say two: Boston, US, and Lima, Peru. Boston had always felt like home, and Lima is energizing!

Asia
Armanni Antoine-Chagar – GGI Chengdu Community Manager

Work?

Software Engineering Student, Freelancer Junior Developer, Football & Rugby Captain.

Why China?

Firstly to learn the language and experience a change in culture …. now to graduate as a software engineer and make the most of all the amazing opportunities China have to offer me.

Best part about being in GGI?

It’s the fact that you have a global community of ladies from all over the world who come together to help and support one another in any way they can. The major bonus is making all these beautiful connections with women who share the same interests but have different experiences and amazing stories to share with you.

Favorite city?

I didn’t even have to think about this one….Roseau, Dominica. My mother’s family is from the Island, it’s absolutely beautiful….the people are lovely…and the food is amazing!

Friendship
Rosie Brown, GGI Shanghai Community Manager

Work?

PYP Teacher at an IB World School & Marketing and Fundraising for Chengdu Animal Rescue

Why China?

There was no rhyme or reason to my decision. I just wanted to do something different, something none of my friends or family had done before. Was supposed to only be for a year, but entering my 3rd year now with no plans to return home soon!

Best part about GGI?

I have met some of my best friends through GGI Events and I don’t know where I would be without the WeChat groups which are an ever constant source of knowledge and support.

Favourite City?

Chengdu! I may be biased as Chengdu is my new home, but I honestly cannot imagine a more perfect city to live in (ok, maybe a little less pollution would be nice!) It is a perfect mix of old and new, tradition and innovation and I am so happy to call this city home for now!

Katie Jansen – GGI China Social Media Manager

Work?

Currently a wandering digital nomad.

Best part about being in GGI?

The best part about being a GGI is the relationships that are created, as new places and cultures are explored. The GGI community is a great place to connect with like minded people, and share our ideas and passions.

Favorite city?

I am not sure that I have a favorite. I enjoy many places for their own unique reasons. I love the tropics, the ocean, the mountains, Europe, South America, Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean and North America. I thrive on diversity and the cities in all of these places have opened my mind to new perspectives and given me relationships and different ways of living that I crave at different times.

Work?

I work for Rolls-Royce (aviation, not cars!) as a Commercial Manager

Why China?

I guess I got that wanderlust feeling after experiencing living away from “home” and the desire to experience working/living somewhere further afield.

Best part of being in GGI?

The best part of being a GGI is connecting with women from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of community and most importantly, having lots of fun together along the way!

Favorite city?

I have so many fond memories of my time in Spain, so Madrid has got to be my favorite city.
